Standing Liberty (1916-1930)

The Standing Liberty Quarter, which succeeded the well-liked Barber Quarter, had a relatively brief tenure. Introduced in 1916, it quickly became the subject of controversy due to Liberty's exposed right breast on the obverse side. In response, the design was altered in 1917 to cover the breast, and once more in 1925 to prevent premature wear of the date. Production ceased in 1930, and it was subsequently replaced by the Washington Quarter in 1932.
