Public objection to the Chain and Wreath designs on the Flowing Hair series eventually led to the creation of a new Capped Liberty design. The obverse features a bust of Liberty adorned with a large Phrygian cap. Like its predecessor, the Capped Liberty design was short-lived, and was replaced by the Draped Bust design in 1796.
