Fractional

During the Civil War, the country experienced a shortage of circulating coinage, creating a need for alternate low-denomination currency. Postal Currency, also known as Fractional notes, was created to alleviate the coin shortage and was issued in 3, 5, 10, 15, 25 and 50-cent denominations from 1862 to 1876.
