Classic Commemoratives, also known as Early Commemoratives, originated in 1892 to mark the 400th anniversary of Columbus' journey to America. Most of these early commemoratives were half dollars, and a significant number were issued in the 1920s and 1930s. The production of early commemoratives concluded in 1954.
